How to Export Data from ArcGIS Pro to CSV
A quick tutorial on exporting attribute tables from ArcGIS Pro to CSV. Learn how to include geometry as a WKT column.
Exporting data from ArcGIS Pro to CSV is a common task when you need to share data with non-GIS colleagues or perform statistical analysis in Excel.
The Standard Export (Attributes Only)
If you only need the tabular data, the process is simple:
- Right-click the layer in the Contents pane and select "Attribute Table".
- In the table view, click the "Export Table" button.
- Choose "All records" and select "CSV" as the output format.
- Click OK. The CSV will only contain attribute data, not the geometry.
Exporting with Geometry (WKT)
If you need to preserve the spatial data, you must use the "Export Features" tool.
- Open the Geoprocessing pane (Analysis > Tools).
- Search for "Export Features".
- Select your input layer.
- For Output Location, choose a folder and name the output.
- Critically, check the box for "Add geometry attributes". This will create a text column containing the WKT (Well-Known Text) geometry.
- Run the tool.
- Once complete, open the new feature class and export it to CSV as described above. The CSV will now include a WKT column.
Why use WKT instead of Lat/Long?
Latitude and Longitude only work for points. If you have lines or polygons, you need a format like WKT to represent the shape in a single CSV cell.
The Alternative: Browser-Based Converter
If you do not have ArcGIS Pro, you can achieve the same result by downloading your data as a Shapefile from an ArcGIS REST service, then using our GIS Converter tool to convert it directly to a CSV with a WKT column.
Summary
Exporting to CSV from ArcGIS Pro is straightforward, but remembering to include geometry requires using the Export Features tool. For quick, browser-based conversion, use our dedicated converter tool.
